Firing tear gas at relief camp condemned

Imphal, June 10 2025:
Many strongly denounced the act of security forces firing tear gas shells on Monday evening towards a relief camp set up at Netaji Memorial Club, Khurai Kongpal Thoubandong for the flood-hit people.
Speaking to media persons at Netaji Memorial Club on Tuesday, president S Ramananda informed that the club has been overseeing relief camps established at five locations for the flood ravaged people of four localities.
Amidst the situation, total shutdown was called against the arrest of Arambai Tenggol fighting commander Ashem Kanan on June 7 .

Though the public protest was intense in different areas, the situation was relatively calm in and around the relief camp set up at the club.
However, under the garb of containing the protests, security forces came in seven-eight vehicles and randomly fired tear gas shells at the relief camp.
Even though club volunteers told them that the place is a relief camp, their pleas went unheeded, he rued.
Highlighting the presence of individuals with health issues in the relief camp, he denounced the inhumane acts of the security forces.
The press conference was also attended by meira paibi and club members of Kongpal Chingabam Leirak, Kongpal Ningthoubung Leikai, Kongpal Laishram Leikai and Kongpal Sajor Leikai.
