Jiribam, July 05 2024:
Jiribam District Reconciliation Forum, which was recently formed by representatives from non-Meetei and non-Kuki communities, has called for public sup port in restoring peace in the district.
Addressing the media at the PWD guesthouse, here, on Friday, spokesperson Mathew Kamei said the Forum was formed in a joint meeting of neutral communities like Bengali Hindu, Bengali Muslim, Meitei Pangal, Bishnupriya and Rongmei held at Jiribam police guesthouse on June 27 to promote peaceful co-existence among people of different communities.
As the Forum could not organise a joint meeting of people of communities in conflict, they are hoping that meeting them separately to establish a platform for communicating issues and aspirations would help in restoring peace, he said and stressed the need for forgiveness, forgetting 'and reconciliation in order to restore peace and normalcy.
So far, the Forum has initiated talks with some community members.
It may take time but the Forum believes that pursuing peace and normalcy is worth the efforts, Mathew Kamei said while clarifying that the Forum is not related with any political party but works without any external influence.
He urged for public cooperation in restoring peace and harmony in the district.
Forum convenor PK Das, co-convenors Paosing Kamei and Faij Ahmed, and other members were also present during the press meet.
