"To effectively address such misunderstandings and promote cordial existence, education is essential," he said, while commending the PSO for initiating the campaign, which he called as a positive step forward.
Delivering the keynote address, PSO finance secretary Yumkhaibam Asgar stated that in-spite of the importance of getting acquainted with historical events in fostering sense of nationalism, the present generation is not being taught the history of Manipur, but histories of other states and countries.
"This lack of knowledge about own history contributes to a sense of low self-esteem and hinders the development of nationalism and patriotism and it would be only fair to say that this situation has arisen due to the suppressive policies of the government of India," he pointed out and exhorted the people, especially students to break free from these suppressive policies and educate themselves.
He also accused the government of India of ignoring the suffering of the student community in the state due to the ongoing crisis.
As a part of the campaign, PSO distributed study materials to the students present.
