Imphal, January 03 2025: Nupi Khunai Lamsang Keithel, Lamsang Apunba Meira Paibi and Progressive Youth Association jointly organised a sit-in protest denouncing the arrest of village volunteers.

The protestors held placards inscribed with slogans 'We condemn arrest of village volunteers', 'Stop arresting village volunteers', 'Manipur police involved in killing Manipur police should be punished', 'Remove AFSPA, 1958', 'Show your strength in killing Meetei to narco-terrorists' and 'Release the arrested village volunteers' among others.

Speaking on the sidelines of the protest, Nupi Khunai Lamsang Keithel member Kshetrimayum Surbala pointed out that village volunteers left the comfort of their homes, jobs and education to protect the land in the wake of aggression by Kuki narco-terrorists since May 3, 2023.Denouncing the arrest and killing of village volunteers by security forces, she demanded unconditional release of six arrested village volunteers.

Meanwhile, the relay hunger strike being staged at Uripok Crossing under the joint initiative of Uripok Apunba Lup and Uripok Nupi Apunba Lup, demanding arrest of all those involved in killing of six innocent individuals in Jiribam district, completed 49th day on Friday, though there is no report of arrest of the culprits till date.

The protestors displayed placards denouncing crime against women and children, and arrest of the culprits.

On Friday, the relay hunger strike was participated by people of Khwai Singjubung Leirak in the morning, with denizens of Uripok Ahanthem Leikai and Ningthoukhongjam Leikai taking over in the evening.
