SHRI fulfils Tripura CM's kidney transplant dream

Shija Hospitals & Research Institute (SHRI), Langol helped realise the long cherished dream of Tripura chief minister Manik Saha to successfully conduct kidney transplantation in his own state instead of going to other states.
As part of Tripura government's programme to enable its own hospitals perform kidney transplantation surgeries successfully, the third kidney transplant was conducted at the Agartala government medical college in close coordination with Manipur's leading private hospital, Shija Hospitals & Research Institute, on June 30 .
The kidney transplant was led by Shija's urology surgeon Dr Somorendro Paonam though doctors of Agartala government hospital also joined the surgery.
Elated over successfully conduct of kidney transplant for the third time at the Agartala hospital on the eve of Doctors' Day, Manik Saha twitted in his 'X' account that Agartala government medical college & GPB hospital successfully conducted kidney transplant for the third time on the eve of the Doctors' Day in coordination with a team of Shija Hospitals & Research Institute of Manipur.
Both the kidney donor and the recipient are out of danger now and this success displayed excellence and dedication of our medical team, he continued.
Thousands of people of Tripura expressed their happiness over Manik Saha's statement on social media platform and thanked the chief minister for putting enormous efforts in the field of medical science.
Dr Somorendro, who played a vital role and responsibility in turning Manik Saha's dream into reality, told The People's Chronicle that Shija hospitals has been leading kidney transplant programme at Agartala government medical college since the past three years.
With the successful conduct of the programme, a significant space has been occupied in Tripura's medical history, he said.
According to Dr Somorendro, both the kidney donor and recipient of the surgery conducted on June 30 were members of a Meetei family living in Agartala's Radhanagar locality.
"Myself being in the medical profession is extremely happy to render service not just to the people of Manipur but also to people of neighbouring states.
I also feel proud of displaying Manipur state's expertise in the field of medical science while leading the surgeons of Tripura in successful conduct of the surgery," he continued.
Notably, Dr Somorendro Paonam delivered a talk on FANS technology in RIRS: Precision and efficiency in stone management' at the 80th annual conference of the British Association of Urological Surgeons (BAUS) held at Manchester, United Kingdom from June 16 to 18.Restrograde Intra Renal Surgery (RIRS) is removal of stone from kidney through endoscopic surgery with use of FANS technology in the surgery easy and new method.
Shija hospitals currently utilises the said technology.
