College meets engage students in tackling plastic issue

As part of the observance of World Environment Day 2025, college-level symposium competitions on the theme "Ending Plastic Pollution Globally" were held at Imphal College and Thoubal College on Monday.
The competitions were organised to promote awareness and engage students in meaningful discourse on the global issue of plastic pollution, At Imphal College, the symposium jointly organised by the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) and the Eco-club of the college was inaugurated by principal Dr M Chandra Singh and moderated by Department of Political Science head RK Itocha Singh.
Students of the college presented thoughtful and solution-oriented ideas aligned with the United Nations' theme for World Environment Day 2025 .

Their presentations focused on reducing the use of plastic, promoting eco-friendly alternatives, and adopting sustainable practices in daily life.
The symposium competition at Thoubal College on the same theme was jointly organised by the college's IQAC, Green Audit Committee and the Department of Environmental Science.
College principal Prof A Nabachandra, Department of English head Dr K Tejarani Devi and Thoubal College Teachers' Association president N Ibobi attended the programme aS members of the dais.
Speaking at the event, Prof Nabachandra stressed that plastic has been in use for many decades, but improper disposal has now posed a serious concern.
Noting that plastic pollution is one of the most pressing environmental issues, he urged the public to better understand its harmful impacts on health and the ecosystem.
The symposiums encouraged young minds to contribute to environmental sustainability and inspired students to take a proactive role in combating plastic pollution at the grassroots level.
