Imphal, August 01 2025: The People's Chronicle and its sister publication Poknapham, in collaboration with Helping Hands for People (HHP) and JNIMS Blood Centre, organised a blood donation camp on Friday at the JNIMS facility to support the ongoing "Free Blood for Children" scheme.

In his brief address, Poknapham editor Aribam Robindro Sharma said that the media group joined the noble effort in recognition of the initiative to provide free blood to children below 12 years of age without requiring replacement whenever blood is needed.

Calling the scheme an "excellent step", he expressed gratitude to HHP volunteers for their commitment.

Robindro stressed the importance of building a culture of voluntary blood donation.

"Though not a doctor, I have heard that donating blood is like cutting fingernails, or hair.

There's no harm in regular blood donation for those who are fit to donate," he said.

The editor also mentioned ongoing global research on synthetic blood, expressing hope that its successful development could one day address the challenge of blood shortages.

HHP president Premjit Moirangthem highlighted that the "Free Blood for Children" scheme was launched in January this year in collaboration with JNIMS Blood Centre.

Under the scheme, children from birth up to 12 years of age receive blood free of charge, with no replacement requirement.

On the inaugural day, 37 doctors from JNIMS donated blood to launch the programme.

Since then, the initiative has gained momentum with contributions from students, lawyers and government employees.

Premjit said Friday's camp was significant as it was the first time the media, represented by Poknapham and The People's Chronicle, extended direct support to the programme.

He expressed deep appreciation for their involvement, stating that it marked a milestone in broadening the reach of the scheme.
