DGHS visits RIMS, unveils Centre of Excellence for Rare Diseases

Imphal, February 01 2025: Director General of Health Services (DGHS) professor Atul Goel visited Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), Imphal, assessed condition of the RIMS Hospital, and interacted with the residents.

According to a RIMS release, Professor Atul Goel also unveiled the Centre of Excellence for Rare Diseases in the institute, which is expected to enhance specialised healthcare services and research initiatives, further solidifying its position as a premier medical institution in the region.

Professor Goel also had an interactive session with the heads of departments (HoDs) at Sushruta Hall, on advancing medical education, while addressing key challenges in healthcare delivery, and strategizing for future improvements in patient care and academic excellence.

The interaction provided an opportunity for senior faculty members to share insights and recommendations for further elevating RIMS as a centre of medical innovation and excellence, said the PRO.

RIMS director professor G Sunil Kumar Shar ma expressed gratitude to professor Goel for making the visit, stating that his ip-sights and support will play a crucial role in furthering the institution's mission to provide high-quality healthcare and medical training.

The visit concluded with an assurance of continuous support from the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, in strengthening RIMS' infrastructure and healthcare services for the benefit of the people of Manipur and the Northeast region, it further said.
