Fisheries Dept distributes hapa nets

Imphal, August 30 2024:
The Directorate of Fisheries under the initiative of the chief minister distributed hapa nets to the fish farmers of Imphal West district in a function held at the Directorate's auditorium in Lamphelpat on Friday.
The function was attended by Fisheries director Meisnam Balkrishna, Imphal West District Fishery Officer (DFO) K Gunabati, Imphal East DFO L Lindalee and Senapati & Kangpokpi DFO in-charge Th Punil as presidium members.
In his address, Balkrishna informed that of the Rs 1200 crore project inaugurated by the PM on Saturday, around five breeding units amounting to Rs 35 lakh are included for five fish farmers from Imphal West, Kakching and Bishnupur districts, breeding indigenous fish species with each unit worth around Rs 7 lakh.
He continued that under the CM's initiative, the hapa nets are being distributed to the fishers to prevent flood-induced losses.
The nets for Imphal West were distributed on Friday, while reports are awaited for Bishnupur and Thoubal districts, he conveyed.
The director continued that there have been instances where underserving beneficiaries grab benefits meant for genuine farmers through crooked means.
Nonetheless, the hapa nets, which is around 100 metres and procured from Guwahati, will be distributed to 164 farmers of Imphal West district within three days, he added.
As part of the function, officials and farmers attended the live inauguration and laying of foundation stones of several projects by the PM .
