Imphal, May 30 2025:
Union minister for agriculture and farmers' welfare Shivraj Singh Chouhan would be holding a virtual meeting with Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLAs on Saturday in connection with the recently launched Viksit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan, a nationwide campaign aimed at agricultural development.
While the primary focus of the meeting will be on agriculture and allied sectors, sources said the political situation in Manipur is also expected to come up, particularly the growing public opposition to President's Rule and the demand for the formation of a popular government in the state.
Launched on Thursday, the Viksit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan aims to strengthen agricultural growth through a fortnight-long campaign.
Saturday's meeting is reportedly intended to mobilise the BJP MLAs to actively participate in the campaign to ensure its success.
According to reports, all BJP legislators have been instructed to attend the meeting.
This includes Kuki MLAs who have been demanding a separate administration.
They may also join the virtual session.
A senior state BJP leader said that while agriculture will be the central agenda, the party 's central leadership may use the opportunity to take stock of the prevailing political instability in the state.
There has been mounting pressure from civil society groups and the general population for an end to President's Rule and the reinstallation of a democratically elected government.
Sources further indicated that the central leadership is seriously considering the formation of a popular government in Manipur ahead of the Bihar Assembly election, scheduled for October-November.
The move is being seen as a strategic step to present a stable political image in the Northeast ahead of the key electoral battle.
