Congress members led by former CM O Ibobi Singh and the party's state president K Meghachandra also offered floral tributes at Gandhi's bust at the party's Congress Bhawan premises.
The tribute event was also attended CWC member Gaikhangam, party MLAs and other leaders.
Speaking on the occasion, O Ibobi recounted how Mahatma Gandhi helped the nation attain independence from the British through Ahimsa - the non-violence movement.
Similarly, there is a need for an ideology like that of Mahatma Gandhi's non-violence in resolving the prevailing violence in the state, he stressed, adding that the non-violence movement is highly suitable in the context of the present violent situation.
Later in the day, a team led by MPCC president K Meghachandra visited an elderly IDP staying in a relief camp in Moirang, who had attempted suicide but was saved and is currently undergoing treatment at ICU, RIMS.
Speaking on the sidelines of the observance, Meghachandra quoted family members as saying that the elderly IDP expressed sorrow on not being able to meet his family for almost two years.
He continued that while around five IDPs have committed suicides, many other unofficial cases have been reported.
Questioning how long IDPs are to continue to suffer with no plans to return to their homes, the MPCC president demanded the government to help the IDPs resettle in their original homes at the earliest with a sense of responsibility and adequate security.
He then said that team was visiting the elderly IDP to help with medical and other expenses.
The team included MPCC spokesperson Hareshwar Goswami, general secretary S Jiten, Amir Hussain, senior spokesperson N Bhupenda and other party leaders.
