Imphal, August 29 2024:
A 4-day discussion session aimed at bringing uniformity in the ritual practices under Sanamahi religion commenced at Yaiskul MDU hall on Thursday.
Speaking as chief guest of the inaugural function of the discourse being organised by Amai Piba Apul Lup (APAL), Kangleipak, Social Welfare minister Heikham Dingo noted that contemporary society has reached a point where individuals are acting at their own discretion.
While changes due to development are inevitable, it is regrettable that traditions and customs are being diluted, with people often imitating the practices of others.
In this context, it is crucial to preserve and protect the original forms of customs, traditions, and rituals, he said.
The minister further expressed regret that society is suffering from an excessive imitation of others' customs and traditions, leading to the neglect of one's own heritage.
As Manipur is renowned for its rich culture, customs, and traditions, which have earned admiration from others, it is crucial to cease the practice of copying the traditions of others to preserve our own.
Taking advantage of this four-day discussion, we must come together to make a unified decision on this matter, he added.
Presided over by APAL president Moirangmayum Bheigya, the function was also attended by Lainingthou Sanamahi Temple Board vice president Vidyapati Senjam as guest of honour.
Organising Committee APAL chairman Angomcha Mainou (Ibomcha) also took part in the event.
