Sit-in protest continues in state

Sit in protests against attempt being made to arrest village volunteers, conduct of search operations in valley areas and demand for eradication of narco-terrorists from Manipur were held on Thursday.
A sit-in protest was organised at Wangoo Tampha Lairembi Haraopham community hall in Sugnu, under Kakching district, by Wangoo Ahallup, Laipham Apunba Lup (WALAL) Wangoo during which demands were raised to halt bid to arrest village volunteers, search operations in valley areas, and uphold territorial integrity of Manipur.
They also urged authorities concerned to protect the indigenous people of Manipur and restore peace and tranquility in the region.
In Thoubal district, protests were held at Icham Khunou by the meira paibis of Thokchom, Bengi, and Icham Khunou.
The protestors alleged sectarian policy of the government of India and called for eradication of narco 7 terrorists from Manipur, insisting that these terrorists should not be included in the Suspension of Operations (SoO) agreement.
The meira paibis also emphasised the need for the government of India to implement the National Register of Citizens (NRC) in Manipur at the earliest possible, insisted that no weapons should be recovered before solving the conflict and to halt search operations.
Protestors also chanted slogans such as "We want peace", "End the crisis in Manipur immediately" and "Village volunteers should not be arrested" .
A torch rally was also carried out at Lamjao on Thursday evening opposing arrest of village volunteers, deployment of additional forces in valley area, conduct of search operation in valley and disarming of village volunteers.
The rally was jointly organised by Khunggang Shemgat Shagatpa Lup (KSSL), Lamjao; Lamjao Apunba Meira Paibi Lup and Peace Keeping and Protection Committee, Lamjao.
