Imphal, July 26 2025:
The Coordinating Trade Union (CTU) has cautioned that it will launch a "struggle month" campaign from August 1 if free movement along the national highways is not restored at the earliest.
On Saturday, the Coordinating Body of Trade Union, Manipur held a reception programme for trade union activists who participated in the nationwide general strike held on July 9 .
The strike demanded free movement along the national highways of Manipur, an increase in the daily wage, an end to privatisation of government sectors, implementation of the old age pension scheme, and other issues.
The reception was held at Irawat Bhawan.
CTU chairman L Sotinkumar said that the ongoing restrictions on the national highways continue to cause massive inconveniences.
He noted that although the Union Home Minister had issued directions for the restoration of movement, no effective action has been taken so far.
He added that this lack of response is unfortunate for the people of Manipur.
Sotinkumar stated that the authority to resume free movement lies with the central government, and urged it to act promptly.
He warned that if the situation is not resolved, CTU will launch intense agitations in coordination with central trade unions.
He further remarked that there is no justification for such a prolonged delay in finding a solution to end the conflict.
