Shija Hospitals observes ORS Week

Shija Hospitals & Research Institute Pvt Ltd (SHRI) in collaboration with Indian Academy of Paediatrics (IAP) and Paediatrics Association of Manipur (PAM) organised a daylong event at the Shija Auditorium On Friday, as part of the ongoing ORS Week observance from July 25 to 31.According to a release issued by SHRI assistant general manager L Premjit Singh, the observance was attended by Shija Hospitals CMD Dr Palin Khundongbam as chief guest and Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS) HoD Paediatrics Prof N Kameshore as president while Shija Academy principal Babita Ch and director of College of General Practitioner, IMA, Manipur Dr Shyamkumar Laishram were guests of honour.
PAM secretary Dr L Basanta was also present at the event as special guest.
Every year, PAM observes ORS Week with a unique theme, which for this year is "Diarrhoea ki roktham, safai aur ORS serakhen apna dhyan" .
More than 100 participants were present at the event, including students and faculty members from Shija Academy, nurses and support staff from Shija, in addition to volunteers and members of PAM.
During the event, Dr Palin underscored the link between dehydration and mortality as well as highlighted that Smile Train adheres to WHO guidelines by refraining from scheduling surgeries after 2pm to minimise the risk of dehydration-induced mortality.
Shija Hospitals' consultant paediatrician Dr Kh Sachikumar, who was the keynote speaker, emphasised the importance of cleanliness and the use of ORS in preventing and managing diarrhoea as Dr L Shyamkumar and Dr Kameshore elaborated on proper hygiene and timely ORS administration to reduce the incidence and severity of diarrhoea.
Ch Babita encouraged the audience to spread awareness widely, while Dr L Basanta urged students to strive for becoming better healthcare providers.
