MPs urged to speak on peace restoration

Peace and Development Coordinating Committee (PDCC) has urged both MPs of Manipur to deliver powerful and impassioned speeches in the Parliament to prod conscience of national leaders and impressed them on the urgent need to restore peace in the state.
Addressing media persons at Manipur Press Club, here, on Wednesday, PDCC president Leimapokpam Joy said that the crisis lingering since May 3 last year has resulted in displacement of over 60,000 people, who are now sheltered in relief camps, and claimed the lives of over 200 people oh both sides of the conflict.
While asserting that illegal immigrants are responsible for the unprecedented turmoil in the state, called upon both the MPs of Manipur to contribute their mite in resolving the crisis and bring peace by raising the issue in the Parliament.
The president also urged the state and central governments to expedite efforts for restoring normalcy and batted for implementation of the NRC in Manipur to identify and deport illegal immigrants to their places of origin.
Additionally, he called for termination of the Suspension of Operation agreement between the state government, central government, and the armed Kuki outfit, while urging for the removal of "Any Kuki Tribes" from the Scheduled Tribe list of the Indian Constitution.
