Pambei-led UNLF extends greetings on 60th raising day

Imphal, November 25 2024:

contd from previous issue

Elaborating on Front's view on the present ethnic 'war' and the 'Idea of Manipur', the annual statement of the Central Committee of the Pambei-led UNLF said the conflict is not between the Meetei and Kuki-Zo communities but between the people of Manipur and Unified Kuki-Zo communities.

Prominent leaders of Kuki-Zo ethnic groups settling in Manipur misguided their people and brought mercenaries from Myanmar to expand the war.

Their real objective of waging the war is to create an independent Zionist or theocratic Christian state in Indo-Myanmar region while proceeds from poppy plantation and drug (opium) production is fuelling their movement.

Through ethnic cleansing, these people have first forced out the Meeteis settled in Churachandpur and Moreh and now they are trying to occupy economically important Jiribam, located on the western border of Manipur, by forcing out the Meeteis.

They are dreaming to control the economy of Manipur and owners after occupying Jiribam, the UNLF said.

According to the annual statement, there certain norms to be followed by developed societies and armed non-state actors in time of war called International Humanitarian Law (IHL).

The recent incident of heinous killing of children and women was quite contradictory the laws of war accepted by the human society.

Such heinous acts of killing innocent children and women not only tantamount to terrorism and crime against humanity but also violate IHL and International Human Rights Law.

It also violated Common Article 3 of the Geneva Convention, 1949 as also international human rights instruments adopted by the United Nations.

Kuki-Zo leaders must be held responsibility directly for the crimes and booked as per the law and award punishment after trial in law courts.

UNLF shares pains and suffering of the people killed or affected by the present crisis, the annual statement said, calling upon the people to draw a differentiating line between Kuki-Zo terrorists and the common people belonging to Kuki-Zo communities.

The statement further said that all the 10 Kuki-Zo MLAs, leaders and cadres of armed groups under Kuki National Organisation (KNO) and United People's Front (UPF)and leaders of frontal organisations of Kuki-Zo, Committee on Tribal Unity (COTU), Indigenous Tribal Leaders' Forum (ITLF) and Kuki Inpi, Manipur (KIM) as well as mercenaries from Myanmar are not only the enemy of Manipur but also for the common people of Kuki-Zo communities.

People of Manipur must understand the difference between the criminals and common people, the annual statement stressed.

While asserting that Kuki-Zo leaders must be responsible for plotting the war and it would be unfair blame common people for the same, the Central Committee said common people of Kuki-Zo communities were compelled to join the war as they could not escape from the situation.

Nevertheless, common people of Kuki-Zo communities will surely stand against heinous nature of their leaders one day and decision taken by the Thadou community was a clear example in this regard.

The decision taken by the Thadou community on their own despite having close roots with the Kukis was laudable at the highest level.

If we consider the entire Kuki-Zo communities as our enemy, then we will surely fall into the trap of Kuki-Zo leaders, who want the present conflict to be between the Meetei versus Kuki-Zo communities and create irreparable division between the two.

In this connection, the UNLF reminded all indigenous people that the 'Idea of Manipur' encompasses communities living in Manipur since time immemorial such as Thadou, Paite, Gangte, Hmar, Kabui, Tangkhul, Mao, Kom, Rongmei, Anal, Chiru, Chothe, Maring, etc.

Moreover, the geography of Manipur would not be complete without Churachandpur, Pherzawl, Ukhrul, Senapati and Chandel.

"Accordingly, it would not be right to throw away remaining water of child-bathing along with the child.

We must fight the present challenge with all strength and might but should not consider the entire people of a community as enemy or else it will be success in the present war for Kuki-Zo leaders, the annual statement said.

Reiterating that we must not fall into the trap of Kuki-Zo leaders, the annual statement of the Central Committee emphasised the need for a collective understanding that the main objective of creators of the present conflict is to completely destroy the Idea of Manipur.

When discussed deeply the nature of the present war, there is a strategy to form new land and change the already existing boundaries of land using violence very intelligently.

Creation of artificial buffer zones in areas where hill and valley meet indeed is preparation for a new land border with the blessing of Delhi.
