Ukhrul, July 25 2024:
Joining the growing chorus of discontent over the recent cabinet decision, Kamjong District VDF Welfare Association (KDVDFWA) has urged the state government to rescind the order that accorded approval to the inter-district transfer and posting of Village Defence Force (VDF) personnel.
In a statement jointly issued on Thursday, KDVDFWA president MC Thomba and general secretary AS Ringchuingam contended that the cabinet decision has gravely affected the VDF personnel deployed in active service for 15 years and, in full-time duty and assignment as those cadres in regular service.
"We, therefore, earnestly request the state government to put on hold the decision taken on July 12, 2024, and take necessary course of actions regarding the long-standing demands of the VDF personnel," they pleaded.
According to the association, VDF personnel have been demanding for considerable increment in monthly honorarium and other basic entitlements-before taking any decision on the inter-district transfer and posting.
They argued that most VDF personnel now have dependent families and children, making it increasingly difficult for them to cope with livelihood, family management and medical needs on their current compensation.
While claiming that repeated appeals had been made to the State government to prioritise resolving these issues, the association warned that if the state government remains unresponsive to their appeals, they will extend every possible support to the Central Committee of All Manipur VDF Employees' Welfare Association in the matter.
