International, national football players engage in friendly matches

Imphal, May 25 2024:
International and national level men and women football players played two friendly football matches against each other at PYC Ground, Sagolmang on Saturday to encourage youths to take up sports.
The matches organised by PYC, VDC and WPC, Sagolmang under the aegis of Khundrakpam MLA Th Lokeshwar saw a team of ISL/I-League players playing a match with Manipur Team that won the Santosh Trophy 2024 and Senior Women's National Champion 2024 team playing against Senior Women's National Second team.
The programme was attended by MLA Th Lokeshwar, ex-MLA RK Anand, political analyst Leihaothabam Sharatchandra and media editors as dais members.
In the first match, Senior Women's National Champion 2024 team beat Senior Women's National Second team 2-0 with goals from Ng Bala and Dangmei Grace, while in the second match, ISL/I-League players' team edged out Santosh Trophy 2024 winning Manipur Team 3-2 .
The goals for ISL/I-League players' team were kicked in by Telem Jackichand Singh, Bipin Singh Thounaojam and Ashangbam Aphaoba Singh, while the goal for the losing team came from Phijam Sandthoi Meetei and Wangkheimayum Sadananda Singh.
Speaking on the occasion, PYC advisor Sorokhaibam Yaiskul stated the friendly matches were organised to show that Manipuri players want peace in the state, and despite the central government failing to end the ongoing conflict even after one year they will continue to stand for Manipur and India.
