Continuing the annual statement, the Central Committee of the Koireng-led UNLF said India is unable to defeat the liberation movement of the people of Manipur in spite of being a powerful country and making all efforts to suppress the movement.
India achieved very little or no success in suppressing the liberation movement in Manipur though the country claims to be fourth largest military power in the world, it said.
Why is the powerful India still unable to defeat or suppress liberation movement in the tiny and meagrely populated Manipur needs thorough discussion among contemporary generation and realise legitimacy of the armed movement.
The main reason behind India's inability to defeat or suppress the liberation movement is strong foundation or inner strength of the movement and another reason is India's internal weakness despite being fourth largest military power in the world.
The inner strength of the liberation movement stems from the fact that Manipur was created by the blood and sweat of its people.
Apart from this, Manipur was not carved out from any other country nor was it created by merging two/three states, the annual statement said while reiterating that Manipur was never a part of British-India but was forcibly annexed by India.
The Government of India Act 1935 created the Empire of India and the same Act made Manipur a part of the empire.
However, the British government issued an order named 'Manipur (Exclusion) Order' on December 26, 1946 which excluded Manipur from the Empire of India and subsequently Manipur was granted independence on August 14, 1947 .
After king Bodhchandra promulgated the Manipur State Constitution Act on July 27, 1947, the first adult franchise was held in Manipur in June-July 1948 and Manipur became a pioneer of constitutional democracy in South East Asia and South Asia.
The forced annexation of independent Manipur and subsequent colonisation of the independent country is the most fundamental factor for the liberation movement of Manipur.
Accordingly, the liberation movement ini tiated by the people was to regain the lost sovereignty of Manipur and the movement has solid foundation, the annual statement said and asserted that India's annexation of Manipur in 1949 is the root cause of liberation movement.
Moreover, Manipur is still an independent country both on legal and constitutionally points of view and the Manipur State Constitution adopted in 1947 is still alive, UNLF's central committee claimed in the annual statement and stressed the need for the people of Manipur to fight a legal and constitutional baittie with India on this matter.
