Imphal, September 24 2024:
Congress MLA Th Lokeshwar, on Tuesday, enquired the state government what counter measures have been put in place if the intelligence report about infiltration of 900 newly trained Kuki militants from Myanmar to Manipur is true.
The MLA distributed roofing sheets to 26 families of Litanpokpi Mairenpat, whose houses were damaged in a recent thunderstorm.
Interacting with the media on the sidelines, the Khundrakpam MLA said that if the 900 newly trained Kuki militants have already entered the state, it is a huge security risk.
He asked if the government has taken up appropriate counter measures to thwart such threat.
Regarding the viral correspondence about the infiltration of the militants, Lokeshwar said that there were reports of the message being fake before the security advisor confirmed it as authentic.
He demanded the reason behind bringing up such highly confidential input on the public domain.
Following the confirmation by the security advisor, Meetei people, especially those in the fringe foothill areas are in a state of panic.
In stark contrast to the responsibilities of an elected government, the public are standing on guard at the foothills protecting the government instead of the government shielding the public, he said, while criticising lack of proactive measures from the government.
Lokeshwar then called upon the people to stand united and face any threat to the state and its integrity.
