Imphal, May 24 2024:
Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), Imphal has condemned the vandalism caused to properties of the medical institute and assaulting the civil security personnel by a group of people from Lamphel Khunou without any reasons.
In a release, RIMS clarified that as a law-abiding institute, recently the eastern side gate was kept opened for the convenience of the residents of Lamphel Khunou in addition to one gate which was always kept open near the mortuary.
In view of the on-going unrest in the state and for security reasons, movement of the outsiders were restricted inside the campus.
However, there is no restriction on the movement of residents of Lamphel Khunou for their religious and domestic works, etc., as per the directive of the district court, the release informed, while recalling that all of sudden without any provocation, a large group of people from Lamphel Khunou area came on Thursday at 10 am and dismantled the barricades put up near the entrance gates and damaged other public properties of the institute.
The group also assaulted the civil security (unarmed) personnel causing injuries to them as if they were taking the law into their own hands, it contended.
All the allegations made in the print and electronic media by Lamphel Khunou Meira Paibi secretary Karam Chaoba Devi are totally baseless and RIMS has not violated the court order, the release maintained, while denouncing such an act of violence and goondaism in the strongest terms.
It further appealed against repeating such acts in future and taking the law into one's own hands.
