Noney, November 23 2024:
For the past three days, National Highway 37 (Imphal-Jiribam Road) has been rendered impassable due to rockslides at Nungdolan, located between K Sinam and Sehjang villages in Kangpokpi district.
The road construction Company (Ganpati Company) has ramped up its efforts to clear the rockslides since Friday, pressing five excavators into action.
Simultaneously, another company is working on a war footing from the Imphal side to expedite the clearance process.
However, progress is being hindered by recurring rockslides on the steep and treacherous rocky terrain.
It is worth noting that the affected section at Nungdolan is undergoing expansion work to convert it into a! double-lane road, involving controlled blasting operations by the construction company.
Meanwhile, over 115 loaded trucks, including oil tankers, LPG carriers, and other essential goods vehicles, remain stranded at the Noney police check post.
Additionally, trucks carrying essential commodities like potatoes and rice, transported by two separate Indian Railways trains, are stuck in the Khongsang area.
According to officials from Ganpati Company, it is anticipated that it will take at least another day to fully Clear the debris and reopen the highway.
