Chief secretary meets IDPs in Bishnupur, CCpur

Bishnupur/CCpur, July 23 2025:
Puneet Kumar Goel, who recently took over charge as the chief secretary, made an inspection visit to relief camps at Chingoo Thangjing Guest House and Bishnupur Old Mini Secretariat complex on Wednesday to assess living condition of the internally displaced persons (IDPs) .
The chief secretary was accompanied by Home commissioner N Ashokumar, Bishnupur additional deputy commissioner Toijam Opendro, SDO Rishikanta, SP Ksh Ravikumar and other senior officials.

During the visit, several IDPs shared their grievances with the visiting officials, expressed their desire to return to their native villages at the earliest, and stated that life in the relief camps remains difficult and uncertain.
Many highlighted the hardship of raising their children in such conditions and called for sustainable livelihood options, including job opportunities, once they are rehabilitated.
The displaced residents also sought clarification on whether the new chief secretary would fulfill the previous administration's assurance of facilitating their return by December 2025.Additionally, they appealed to the state leadership to take concrete steps toward resolving the ongoing ethnic conflict and restoring peace in Manipur.
In response, PK Goel acknowledged the difficulties being faced by the IDPs and said that his visit was aimed at understanding their issues firsthand.
He assured them that all necessary steps would be taken not only to ensure their safe return but also to uphold Manipur's reputation in the fields of art, culture and sports while working tirelessly to restore normalcy and peace in the state.
Chief secretary PK Goel also visited Churachandpur and inspected relief camps on Wednesday.
The chief secretary's trip covered Simte Inn and Sadbhavna Mandap relief camps where he interacted with the displaced persons currently taking shelter in the camps.
Earlier, the chief secretary inspected helipads at STC/BSF camp located at G Mualkoi village and 36 Assam Rifle besides overseeing the conditions of Lamka public ground, Peace ground and others.
According to sources, the chief secretary's visit to Churachandpur was a part of the preparations for Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to the state possibly on the Independence Day or by the end of August.
