Jiri bodies bat for state forces

Various organisations in Jiribam while demanding deployment of adequate state forces by 6 pm of June 24 to facilitate the return of internally displaced persons (IDPs) of the district to their respective homes, has warned of intense protests if their demand is not met.
In a joint statement, Apunba Jiribam Meira Paibi Lup, Jiribam Women's Association (Kangleipak), United Jiri Youth League, Women's Welfare Organisation (Kangleipak, Jiri branch), Women's Association for Socio-Economic Development (Jiribam), LEECHING, Jiri Development Organisation (JDO), Jiri Ima Meira Paibi Apunba Lup (JIMPAL), AJUCA, and LEECHING Women's Wing expressed concern over the state government's failure to deploy additional state forces in Butangkhal, Harinagar, Narayanpur, Lamtai Khunou, and Modhupur villages under Borqbekra sub-division, despite repeated requests, which has led to the burning and looting of houses by the Kukis in these villages.
It also informed that the Jiribam District Peace Committee has been instrumental in maintaining peace even as the state witnessed violence.
However, the Kukis have been attempting to disrupt peace and cause problems for the Meeteis residing in the district.
During the meeting with Jiribam DC, SP, 39 AR commandant and Tousem Sub-Division SDPO along with representatives of the peace committee and Kuki representatives held on March 18, the Kuki delegation apologised for spreading false and fabricated news, which proved the fact that they have been repeatedly disseminating unfounded accusations against the Meeteis, claimed the statement.
Meanwhile, a day-long discussion on the topic "Prevailing Situation of Manipur" was organised jointly by LEECHING, AJUCA, JDO and World Meitei Council, Jiri Unit at Jiribam Hilghat community hall, on Sunday with Indigenous Peoples Forum Manipur president and Forum for Restoration of Peace convenor Ashang Kasar, FOCS president Th Manihar, AJUCA president M Maipaksana Mangang, JDO president E Dewan, Forum for Restoration of Peace co-convenor Md Khairuddin Shah Moijingmayum, Imphal Naga Forum convenor Ambition, LEECHIN Consultative Committee chairman Kumbha Luwang and social activists Rohan Philem as the presidium members.
