Arms surrendered, weapons recovered, one arrested

Imphal, February 23 2025:
Following the Governor's appeal to voluntarily surrender illegal arms, Manipur Police Control Room reported the surrender of arms and ammunition across Thoubal, Imphal East, and Imphal West districts on Sunday.
According to a press release issued by the control room, one SMG Carbine with magazine, a tear gas gun, two Sniper rifles, a double barrel gun, a single barrel gun, a .38 mm pistol, two 2-inch mortar shells, two IEDs weighing 2.100 kg and 1.070 kg respectively, seven 36 HE hand grenades, five Baofeng handheld radio sets, and one Patka were surrendered at office of Thoubal SP.
In Imphal East district, one AK-56 Rifle with magazine, one MAS series bolt action sniper rifle (7.62 mm) with magazine, and a 303 Rifle with magazine were surrendered at Heingang PS.
Similarly, at Porompat PS, two 36 HE hand grenades, 30 rounds of .303 ammunition, and 11 AK rounds were surrendered.
Earlier on Saturday, one 9mm Carbine Al was surrendered at office of Imphal West SP.
In a separate operation, an active member of the KCP (Noyon), identified as Damu Kangjam alias Ningjaba (47), was arrested from Chingarel Tejpur under Porompat PS in Imphal East district.
The individual was allegedly involved in extortion activities targeting the general public, private firms, and government officials.
Additionally, joint security forces dismantled two illegal bunkers on Sunday at Ching-mang and L Champhal villages under Leimakhong PS in Kangpokpi district, as part of continued efforts to maintain law and order in the region.
