Imphal, February 22 2025:
Lok Sabha MP Dr Angomcha Bimol Akoijam and Rajya Sabha MP Leishemba Sanajaoba, have written separate letters to the director of AIIMS, urging immediate action to reassign examination centres for candidates from the state appearing for the AIIMS Common Recruitment Examination (CRE)-2024 .
Both MPs highlighted the challenges faced by candidates, citing economic hardships, security concerns, and limited travel accessibility due to the ongoing unrest in the state.
In his letter dated February 20, Dr Bimol expressed serious concern over the allocation of examination centres outside Manipur for a significant number of candidates who had opted for Imphal as their preferred centre.
"Given the prevailing situation in the state, including economic hardships and limited accessibility, a large number of these candidates, many of whom belong to underprivileged sections, are unable to afford air travel," he wrote.
He urged the AIIMS director to ensure that candidates are reassigned to Imphal, adding that travel by road is not viable due to current security issues.
Dr Bimol also requested a detailed list of candidates from Manipur who applied for the examination, along with the centres allocated to them.
He emphasised the urgency of the matter, trusting in the director's "understanding and prompt action" .
Similarly, in a letter dated February 21, Rajya Sabha MP Leishemba Sanajaoba echoed these concerns, stating that only a limited number of candidates were allotted examination centres in Imphal, while most were assigned to centres as far away as Assam, West Bengal, Noida, and even Maharashtra.
He highlighted the financial strain on candidates, many of whom are unemployed or from economically weaker sections, including pregnant women and lactating mothers.
"The people of the state are facing tremendous economic hardship due to ethnic tensions," Sanajaoba noted, adding that travel by road was not feasible for many due to law-and-order issues on national highways.
He urged AIIMS to consider alternate arrangements and conduct the examinations in or around Imphal as a "special consideration" .
Both MPs emphasised the need for immediate intervention, stressing that the current allocation system places an undue burden on candidates and could hinder their ability to appear for the examination.
