Covid-19 claims four more Ukhrul, Kpi denizens

Ukhrul, May 21 2021:
As the second wave of Covid-19 pandemic continues to rage across the state, two more persons from Ukhrul district succumbed to the viral infection on Friday.
Obed Chahong, a native of TM Kasom (Roudei) village passed away at RIMS hospital in Imphal while 28-year-old Ngachanpam Sareo of Hunphun village breathed his last at Ukhrul District Hospital (UDH) due to COVid-19 complications on the same day.
This marks the highest Covid fatalities ever registered in the district on a single day.
With the latest two deaths, the death toll due to the malaise has reached 8 in the district, including one victim from Shangkai Kuki village who died on May 17 last.
Meanwhile according to DSO, nine more persons have tested positive for the virus on Friday from different parts of the district.
Of them five were detected at UDH Screening Centre, two on contact tracing and one each from Kamphasom tang and Ringui/Tongou village.
Currently, the district has 74 active cases including 17 at UDH Isolation Ward, 51 at Transit CCC, three at Toungou CIC, two at Lambui CIC and one at Jessami CIC.
Meanwhile nine patients have been referred out of the district so far.
KANGPOKPI The dreaded COVID-19 second wave continues to hit hard Kangpokpi district as two more succumbed to the pandemic on Friday at COVID Care Centre Leikop.
Sixty years old Holkhomang Mate of C Joulen from Saikul AC in Kangpokpi district was admitted at COVID Care Centre Leikop on May 19 evening.
He was earlier brought to CHC Saikul with loose motion, fever and headache before referred to CCC Leikop after developing shortness of breathing and condition worsened.
He was also suffering from Type-2 diabetes.
He succumbed to COVID-19 on Friday around 1:30 am.
Later, he was buried at the village cemetery following strict COVID protocols.
The second victim, Pozero (57) from T Khullen village in Kangpokpi district was also admitted at CCC Leikop on May 19 after staying under home isolation for 7 days.
She was also suffering from similar co-morbid of Type-2 diabetes.
She succumbed around 6:30 am.
She is the second victim of COVID-19 second wave from the village.
She was later buried at the village cemetery following strict COVID-19 protocols.
With two more deaths reported on Friday, the fatality of COVID-19 in Kangpokpi district climbed to 26 .
Meanwhile, with seven new positive cases detected on Friday and 14 cured and discharged in the past 24 hours, the active case in the district stand at 83 .
