Similar drives were also carried out in Singjamei and Khuman Lampak areas.
Meanwhile, around 208 exhaust pipes, confiscated during the Road Safety Month, were lined up and flattened using a roller.
In this regard, SP Shivakanta said that modifying exhaust pipes is illegal and informed that such drives would continue in the future.
He urged two-wheeler riders not to modify silencers and advised four-wheeler drivers against using tinted films or removing them from their vehicle windows, as this is also illegal under the law.
Only VVIPs with high-security protocols are permitted to use tinted films on their vehicles, he explained and requested the public to adhere to this regulation, while warning that police would take appropriate action in case of violation.
SP Traffic Pramesh Arambam urged two-wheel riders especially bikers to stop installing unauthorised loud exhaust pipes which cause noise pollution and inconvenience the people, informing that the drives will continue and anyone found violating the rules will face legal action.
There will be no compromises under any circumstances, he cautioned, revealing that the Traffic Police issued traffic challans totalling ₹37,45,700 in January and ₹21,82,300 up to February 16 .
Regarding the drives against encroachments on footpaths, he urged the shop keepers to voluntarily remove the encroachments rather than waiting for police intervention.
