Imphal, January 20 2025:
Apart from announcing boycott of Republic Day celebration on January 26, the proscribed Socialist Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak (SOREPA) imposed general strike on the day from 4 am to 5 pm.
The general strike, however, will be exempted for movement relating to medical, fire, electricity, religious ceremonies and media, a SOREPA statement said.
There is no reason for the people of WESEA region including Manipur to join India's Republic Day celebration, the SOREPA statement issued by secretary of publicity and organisation MC Yaiphabi said and offered solidarity to total shutdown/general strikes likely to be called by revolutionary groups of WESEA region including Manipur, Kashmir and Khalistan on the same day.
The organisation also paid homage to those who sacrificed their lives for the unity of the region and extended wishes for speedy recovery of those injured while defending the land.
According to the SOREPA statement, WESEA region including Kangleipak/Ma-nip.ur were never a part of India and hence people of the erstwhile independent nations of WESEA, Kashmir and Khalishtan have no connection whatsoever with India's Republic Day.
The organisation appealed to the people to help in developing a united force which could break up GoI's hegemony.
While stressing the need for pushing forward the freedom movement to end GoI's suppressive regime in WESEA, Kashmir and Khalishtan, SOREPA also called for formulating a collective strategy and united movement to regain the lost sovereignty of the people of the region.
People of WESEA including Kangleipak/Manipur have no reason to join the Republic Day celebration, the statement said while informing that the organisation is imposing total shutdown on January 26 .
