Monsang Naga Students' Union condoles

The Sirti Thiimjiitam Sourkhe (Monsang Naga Students' Union) has expressed profound grief over the death of Upa Egbert Khartu Monsang, a respected educationist and cultural figure from Liwa Changning village in Chandel district, who passed away at the age of 84.In a statement, the students' union said that Egbert Khartu was a pioneer and a guiding figure within the organisation.
He had served as a Zonal Education Officer (ZEO) in Chandel and was known for dedicating his life to the promotion of Monsang literature and education.
According to the Union, Khartu had authored numerous literary works in the Monsang language and had played a pivotal role in preserving the linguistic and cultural heritage of the Monsang community.
His contributions were formally recognised in 2020 when the Sirti Upa Ruw (Monsang Tribe Union) honoured him with the title "The Father of Monsang Literature" .
"His legacy of dedication, leadership and cultural advocacy has left an indelible mark on the community," the release said, while adding that his work would continue to be remembered and cherished for generations to come.
It also extended condolences to the bereaved family.
