Awareness prog on deforestation held

By not protecting the Reserved and Protected Forests, we are pushing the future the generations to come towards a pit of fire, Central Forest Division conservator of forests Rk Amarjit has stated.
He made the statement during an awareness programme on Prevention of Deforestation and Protection of Forest Fire organised by BJP Heingang Mandal at Rural multipurpose community hall, Heingang Makha Leikai on Sunday.
The programme was also attended by BJP Imphal East president P December, retired deputy forest ranger Ayekpam Isho Singh, BJP Heingang Mandal president Khumanthem Jia Singh, Heingang police station OC Kh Pathou and BJP OBC Morcha national member L Lebel as presidium members.
Rk Amarjit pointed out that of the total area of the state, 4.4 percent are reserved forest, while 14.5 percent are protected forests.
He stressed the need for preserving the reserved and protected forests, stating that failure to do so tantamount to pushing the future generation into a fire pit.
All living beings are dependent on the forests.
As such, our ancestors have always been proactive with regard to conservation of forests.
In addition, Manipur is one of the biodiversity hotspots, he said, while urging the present generation to help preserve the forests as the future of Manipur and survival of its people depend on it.
