Imphal, June 17 2024:
Delhi Meetei Co-ordinating Committee (DMCC) organised Burari Meefam (meeting) on Sunday and adopted several resolutions.
Informing this in a release, DMCC noted with regret that the conflict in Manipur continues to fuel suffering and displacement of people, particularly Meetei community, despite various interventions.
It urged both the state and central governments to take immediate and decisive action to end the conflict and restore peace and stability in the region.
The clash between the Meetei and Kuki communities has resulted in significant loss of life, property and displacement of individuals, it continued, while urging the GoI to stop siding with Kuki militants, as such an agenda is exacerbating tension and prolonging the unrest in Manipur.
It further demanded reinstatement of all displaced Meetei community members from Moreh, Kangpokpi, Churachandpur, and Jiribam in their respective homes without further delay and adequate compensation and support provided to rebuild their lives and properties.
While deploring the unfulfilled promise of the chief minister to vis.it Jiribam and facilitate the reinstatement of displaced Meetei individuals, DMCC said that the CM must demonstrate his commitment and take immediate steps to address the issue.
Moreover, CM and his ministerial colleagues must resign from their positions if they cannot safeguard the integrity of Manipur and protect its citizens while suggesting that the people be empowered to govern themselves.
A collaborative approach is necessary to develop effective strategies for resolving the conflict and fostering lasting peace, it continued, while informing that DMCC would be organising a public convention towards this end on July 7 .
The Burari Meefam (meeting) was also attended by DMCC Core Team, DMCC Women's Wing, DMCC Youth Wing, and Meetei Clubs in Delhi.
