Kakching, August 16 2025:
As part of a nationwide protest launched by All India Congress Committee (AICC) against alleged "vote theft" by the BJP in collusion with Election Commission of India (ECI) in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, the Congress organised a Mass Candlelight March at Kakching town on Thursday evening.
The march, jointly organised by Kakching District Congress Committee (DCC) and Block Congress Committees of Kakching, Wabagai, Hiyanglam and Sugnu, was participated by MPCC working president and former Wabagai MLA Md Fajur Rahim, former Hiyanglam MLA Elangbam Dwijamani, MPCC secretary and Congress candidate in the 12th Manipur Legislative Assembly election in Kakching assembly constituency Kshetrimayum Kennedy, Hiyanglam PCC member and former assembly candidate Dr Huidrom Jiten, DCC, Kakching president A Rahman Chesaba, office-bearers of Kakching, Wabagai, Hiyanglam and Sugnu Block Congress Committees, party members and well-wishers.
During the rally, which commenced from the Kakching BCC office at Kakching Bazar, the participants raised slogans such as "We condemn vote theft", "Those holding office through vote theft should resign" and "BJP Down Down" along with protestors carrying placards denouncing electoral malpractices.
Speaking to reporters during the protest, former MLA Fajur Rahim claimed that an investigation led by Rahul Gandhi uncovered large-scale irregularities, including voter duplication and identity manipulation, purportedly carried out by the BJP in collusion with the Election Commission during the 2024 Lok Sabha polls.
He claimed that without such practices, the BJP would not have come to power, adding that records even showed instances where a single individual was registered as a voter in as many as 30 different polling stations.
The agitation in Kakching, he said, was held to oppose these electoral wrongdoings.
