ASHA workers plan stir from July 18

To press for increment of their monthly entitlement and other demands, ASHA workers are set to launch intense agitation from July 18.Announcing to the media at Manipur Press Club, here, on Friday, All Manipur ASHA Workers' Union general secretary Paonam Usharani said that despite multiple requests to authority concerned for increasing the honorarium of ASHAs and recognising the workers as government employees among other demands, no response or action has been taken up till date, consequently compelling the ASHA workers to decide for launching intense protests.
Usharani continued that ASHA workers will no longer participate in exercises/ campaigns related to census on population, Malaria, TB, diabetes and over 40 activities.
Further pointing out that ASHA workers in other states are receiving Rs 15,000 honorarium per annum, she appealed to fellow ASHA workers not to interfere with the protests and to abstain from the ASHA Day observance function nor submit the monthly report for July.
Anyone found defying the call would be solely responsible for own action, the secretary cautioned and advised colleagues to contact their respective leaders.
She also revealed that the 60,000 newly inducted ASHAs have not received the state's share of Rs 1000 while urging for providing the same.
