Teachers briefed on POCSO, child marriage Act

Kakching, April 11 2025:
An awareness-cum-sensitisation programme on the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, 2012, and the Prohibition of Child Marriage Act, 2006, was conducted for school teachers of Kakching district at Langmeidong Dramatic Union Hall on Friday.
The programme organised by District Child Protection Unit (DCPU), Kakching, under the aegis of Kakching district administration, aims to enhance understanding and enforcement of child protection laws among educators.
Hiyanglam MLA Dr Yumnam Radheshyam, Zonal Education Officer, Kakching Yengkhom Achouba, and District Child Protection Officer Gajoo Rajkumari attended the programme as presidium members.
DCPU's legal-cum-probation officer M Robindro and Social Welfare Department's SCPS programme officer Mala Lisham spoke on the topics "Child Marriage and Its Impact on Children" and "Overview of the Juvenile Justice System," respectively.
Addressing the gathering, Dr Radheshyam pointed out the need for timely punishment of offenders in order to effectively curb crimes against women and children.
He stressed that alongside legal action, spreading awareness is vital to prevent such crimes from occurring.
He further noted that such programmes are instrumental in reducing crimes against vulnerable groups and urged the department concerned to conduct similar initiatives across other parts of the state.
