Imphal, September 10 2022: CSIR-NEIST in collaboration with NG Mani College organised a one day awareness cum training programme on 'Medicinal & Aromatic Plants & Distribution of Prizes for the on-the-Spot Painting Competition' at the Branch Laboratory of CSIR-NEIST, Lamphelpat, here, on Friday.

Organised under the CSIR Aroma Mission Project, the programme was attended by Langthabal AC MLA Karam Shyam; CSIR-NEIST Branch Laboratory Lamphelpat senior principal scientist Dr Huidrom Birkumar Singh; NG Mani College Khurai principal Dr W Jibankumar Singh; College of Food Technology CAU dean Prof Dr Ng Iboyaima Singh; Manipur Science & technology Council Takyelpat director Dr L Maniketan Singh and MSME Technology, Imphal deputy director Dr S Yoirentomba Meetei as presidium members.

In his speech, MLA Shyam said that society will develop for the better once the value of time is realised by everyone.

No matter how successful one is, if he/she were unpunctual, they will fall behind in guiding the future generations of the society and those in high positions should refrain from being late.

He then said that the biggest need of human being is sharing of knowledge and as such, urged teachers to share their life experiences and knowledge with their students.

Shyam continued that in this internet era, the youth must stop pinning all their hopes on government jobs and blame any setbacks on family backgrounds.

Young people must not look down on small jobs and instead think about giving back to the society by working hard and applying their knowledge to achieve success.

The future pillars of society should absorb all positive knowledge while avoiding all negative knowledge, he asserted.

Stating that corruption will soon come to an end in Manipur, the MLA remarked that the future of the present students is bright.

Hardworking students will be able to get any government jobs on merit.

Thus, students must strictly adhere to social values, their responsibilities, time, discipline and study, while working hard with an aim to surpass even themselves so as to have a successful life in the future.

Speaking on the occasion, senior principal scientist Dr Birkumar Singh informed that CSIR NEIST has installed 5 machines for processing oil from medicinal and aromatic plants.

Farmers, who have completed the training, are now engaged in mass plantation of medicinal and aromatic plants, processing oil from such and marketing them outside the state.

Many farmers of the state have benefitted from Aroma Mission Project, he added.

As part of the programme, prizes were distributed to the top win ners of an on-the- spot painting competition organised earlier on Friday morning.
