Kakching, February 09 2025: Writer's Association, Kakching (WAK) on Sunday bestowed various titles and awards to litterateurs and artistes, who have excelled in the fields of literature and performing arts, at Library and Information Centre auditorium, Phoushupat Leikai.

The programme was attended by Senior Citizens' Forum, Kakching president and ex-minister Nongmaithem Nimai as chief guest, and Manipur State Kala Akademi ex-secretary S Vedeshwar Sharma as president, while Jawaharlal Nehru Manipur Dance Academy retired director Laipubam Upendra Sharma and Chandel divisional forest officer Dr Naorem Munal Meitei were guests of honour.

During the event, a two-minute silence was observed in memory of departed writers namely Dr Khumallambam Sorojini Devi, Maibam Nabakishor, Pukhrambam Kunjo and Khumanthem Prakash; WAK secretary Moirangthem Birmangal presented the yearly report; Dr Rashini Yengkhom, daughter of (late) Y Nimai Singh and Tabahal Devi of Kakching Turel Wangma Ningthou Pareng was felicitated on her promotion to IPS cadre and WAK's annual journal 'Natik Nangal' was released.

The function was marked by presentation of the Sahitya Bhushan title to Nimai Pukhramba, Kabya Bhushan to Yengkhom Bihari, Sangeet Bhushan to Yaik-hom Ibochou (Nat Sankirtan Phamshak), Kala Bhushan to Khumanthem Sundari (Khongjom Parva), Naorem Amuyai-ma Pandit Achouba Ningshing Mana to Naorem Chandramani, Writers' Association Literature Award to Dr Nongmaithem Pra-modini for her prose collection 'Thaja Wari Khara', Sougaijam Nodiya Gold Medal to Waikhom Chandrakumar and Lifetime Achievement Award for Literature (posthumously) to Pukhrambam Kunjo.

Recognition certificates for literature were awarded to Jashumati Nongmaithem, Naorem Tababi and RK Nao-ria (Ratankumar Naorem) and certificates of honour presented to cultural activist Mayengbam Brajamani, The People's Chronicle & Poknapham correspondent Sanjay Wangjamcha and Image TV Kakching journalist Gotima-yum Joychandra Sharma at the event, along with presentation of simple gifts to All India Radio, Imphal's Kakching correspondent Nongmaithem Bhabeshwar and Naharolgi Thoudang Kakching correspondent Sougaijam Ronan.
