Art & Culture Department deputy director G Dhar-madas Sharma has stated that cultural organisations and institutes play an important role in promotion and propagation of Manipur's rich art and cultural heritage across the world.
He was speaking as the chief guest at the valedictory function of the 'Workshop cum Production' organised by Manipuri Ensemble under the Chief Ministergi Artistsingi Tengbang (CMAT) at JNMDA auditorium on Saturday.
The closing function was attended by Cultural Workers and Activists' Forum, Manipur chairman Buddha Chingtham as president and Manipur Theatre Academy, Wangoi director Sarungbam Biren as guest of honour.
Deputy director G Dhar-madas Sharma continued that the government launched the CMAT scheme, in recognition of the need to encourage and support the artistes of the state.
Under this scheme, various programmes for the welfare of artistes and promotion of the state's rich art and culture have been taken up, including pension for the artistes, financial aid for procuring props/accessories and sponsorships to cultural organisations and institutes.
Stating the department sincerely wants to deliver the schemes to the deserving beneficiaries, Dharmadas urged the beneficiaries to apply for the government assistance in accordance with the rules.
He then said that the role played by cultural organisations and institutes in promoting and propagating the state's art and culture cannot be dismissed.
As such, he exhorted the bodies to continue on with their work and urged all to be proud off their culture.
As part of the closing function, the audience were en thralled with Manipuri Ensemble's new production, 'When the sun set' .
