Violence-hit IDPs face flood wrath

The fabricated houses built by the state government in the campus of a sericulture farm at Kwakta, near Moirang River, have been inundated due to overflow from the Kwakta Maning River into Moirang River, following collapse of a brick wall enclosing 30 rooms.
Apart from the floodwaters submerging large tracts of agricultural farms, a man got drowned while attempting to prevent fish in Loktak Lake's phumdi from escaping his area.
The deceased person has been identified as Haobijam Tompok alias Manichandra (39) s/o late Biramangol of Ningthoukhong Ward No 10 .
He is survived by his wife and two daughters.
Meanwhile, recent heavy rainfall has caused the Maha River to overflow, inundating many paddy fields in Sibong-Lamna Lok, Changning Lok, Tamsha, and Ahong areas in Chumbang and Komlathabi areas of Chandel district.
Additionally, the intense rainfall has led to breaches in the Wabagai River, resulting in flooding of numerous paddy fields in the affected areas On the other hand, rise in water level of Lousipat in Thoubal district due to the recent heavy rainfall has left many fish farms and paddy fields submerged under water.
The fish farms and paddy fields located on both sides along the stretch from Tekcham to Irengband road are under flood waters.
The farmers of the area urged authority concerned to help the farmers whose fish and paddy farms have been ravaged by manmade flood water even as they are suffering from the unrest situation in the state.
