State-level Yoga Olympiad begins

A three-day 10th State Level Yoga Olympiad organised by Directorate of Education (Schools) commenced at Johnstone Higher Secondary School, here, on Wednesday.
Speaking as chief guest of the inauguration function, Education (S) joint secretary Elangbam Sonia informed that the Yoga Olympiad is being organised to promote the practice of yoga, reminding that yoga, an ancient discipline, is not only a form of physical activity but also a holistic approach to well-being.
She also noted that in recognition of its cultural significance, yoga has been included in the list of intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO in 2016."Yoga is a way of life that contributes to the overall development of both body and soul", she said, highlighting its holistic benefits, and urging all to embrace the discipline to maintain good health and lead a peaceful life.
Education (S) physical education promotion officer (PEPO) and in-charge of the Yoga Olympiad 2025 Dr LW Ananta, stated that the Olympiad is a scheduled calendar event organised in connection with National Yoga Day.
A total of 306 participants, selected from 17 zones under Education (S), including two district in-charges, are taking part in the event.
Top performers from the state-lev-el Olympiad will represent Manipur at the National Yoga Olympiad in Delhi.
Presided over by Education (S) additional director (Schools/hills) Dangmei Manglem, the programme was also attended by Education (S) additional director (schools/valley) Bisheshwar Khumukcham and Education (S) senior administrative officer S David as guests of honour.
