Imphal, June 01 2024:
While calling for providing adequate assistance to those affected by the flood, Manipur State Council/Communist Party of India (MSC/CPI) has categorically stated thar the state government should come up with initiatives to mitigate flash flood in future.
Issuing a statement, MSC/CPI pointed out that its office was also flooded up to 4 feet, and shared the grief all those affected by flash flood caused by incessant rain.
The party urged the government to take up projects to clean, widen and construct retaining wall of Imphal and Nambul rivers which are flowing through the heart of Imphal city.
In another release, MSC/CPI held the government responsible for causing causalities during the flash flood as appropriate precautionary measures were allegedly not taken up in time even though the state has been experiencing similar natural calamities in the past.
While pointing out that the impact of cyclone Remal that the state faced was moderate as termed by climatologists, the party questioned authorities concerned why they were unprepared of the impending doom.
While highlighting that other states have been successful in cleaning bed of rivers which are several times larger than those running in the state, MSC/CPI urged the government to come up with initiatives and policies to prevent similar incidents from occurring in future and to conserve the environment.
