Imphal, April 30 2025:
The armed Socialist Revolutionary Party (SOREPA), Kangleipak extended revolutionary honour and paid respect to all the labours/working class people across the globe including of WESEA region on the occasion of May Day, a global commemoration held on May 1 every year.
The organisation also extended revolutionary salutes to all the labours across the globe martyred during labours' movement against capitalists and for ensuring their rights.
According to a SOREPA statement, May Day is being observed across the globe on May 1 every year to commemorate the courage and unity of labours who fought against the exploitative system created by the wealthy/capitalist people.
"The day also remembers the unity of labourers who successfully launched a movement against the capitalists and their exploitative system on May 1, 1886 in Chicago, USA," it said, adding that the movement was against exploitative policy of the capitalists who forced working class people to work for extended hours beginning from early morning till midnight merely for getting profit.
According to the SOREPA statement issued by publicity and organisation secretary MC Yaiphabi, labours movement in Kangleipak/Manipur started before the actual May Day observance in 1939 when the then people's leader Irabot led a mass rally from Moirangkhom till the office of the British political agent Jimson.
"It was the first mass rally held in support of farmers/labours in Kangleipak/Manipur and May Day observance in Kangleipak/Manipur started after the initiation by Irabot afte which the observance continues till date," recounted SOREPA.
The party also called upon the people to observe May Day in its true spirit and take the day as an opportunity for arriving at a collective decision on surplus production and what should the present generation leave for the betterment of the future generation.
Only then, May Day observance will be meaningful, it conveyed.
