Imphal, August 28 2024:
Locals of Thangmeiband Sinam Leikai and surrounding localities have resolved to undertake repairing of the road leading to Savio English School if the government does not address the issue within one week.
The decision to this effect was arrived at in a meeting held at Ima Panthoibi Laibung near Thangmeiband Fisheries gate which was attended by residents of Thangmeiband Sinam Leikai, Neikalong Kabui khul, Guigailong, students and teachers of St Savio English School and staff of Hillside Hospital.
In his address, Thangmeiband Youths Social Reformation and Development Committee (TYSRDC) executive member N Ibom-cha criticised government's inaction regardless of the said road left untended for the past three years.
He noted that while there were promises to construct a ring road, the existing road remained unrepaired and has been further damaged due to excavation works for laying water pipelines by the Keystone Construction Private Limited.
Neikalong Youth Club president Johnson Golmei, who also addressed the gathering, acknowledged that locals have endured untold hardships due to poor condition of the road.
He warned that if the government fails to initiate repair works, Rongmei Kabui community settling along the road stretch will support any agitation initiated by TYSRDC.
