AR pays tribute to 1959 Longju bravehearts

Churachandpur, August 26 2026: Assam Rifles conducted a solemn wreath-laying ceremony at the Unit Quarter Guard in Veng, Churachandpur district, on August 25, commemorating the supreme sacrifice of Naik (Late) Madaini Bahadur Chhetri, Rifleman (Late) Bati Anka and Rifleman (Late) Prem Bahadur Chhetri of 5 Assam Rifles.

On August 25, 1959, these bravehearts laid down their lives in the line of duty during an unprovoked Chinese aggression at Longju, located in the Subansiri Division of NEFA, present-day Upper Subansiri district, Arunachal Pradesh.

Demonstrating exemplary courage, resolve, loyalty and comradeship, their heroic act remains etched in the proud history of the force, said the AR in a statement.

The ceremony honoured the fallen heroes, rekindled the ethos of selfless service and inspired all ranks to uphold the highest traditions of devotion to duty.

The proceedings commenced with wreath laying and a Guard of Honour, followed by a motivational talk emphasizing the valour and sacrifice of the bravehearts.

A total of215 personnel paid homage during the event, said the AR .
