Status quo remains on MM in newspapers

Imphal, July 26 2024:
In continuation of the initiative for development of Meetei language and script, the monitoring committee comprising Meetei Erol Eyek Loinasillol Apunba Lup (MEELAL), All Manipur Working Journalists' Union (AMWJU) and Editors' Guild Manipur, convened a meeting on Thursday at Loktak Hall of Manipur Press Club, here, and resolved to maintain status-quo regarding a full page dedicated to printing/publication of news items in Meetei Mayek (MM) by state's dailies in view of the ongoing conflict affecting circulation of newspapers.
In a release, MEELAL informed that the meeting presided over by The Sangai Express (Manipuri) editor Kh Khogen resolved that Meetei Mayek expansion of contents, if any, in newspapers will be reviewed through periodical conduct of meeting while MEELAL will monitor and check if newspapers follow the said agreement.
In case of non-adherence to the agreement, then the monitoring committee should be intimated within a month and action initiated against the newspaper concerned.
Moreover, it resolved to include Meetei Mayek in advertisement with exception of matters received from agencies based outside the state, the release added.
