Imphal, February 26 2025:
Shiv Sena Manipur president M Tombi has described the inability of BJP MLAs to form a government as a historical embarrassment", asserting that the same will be recorded as such in the history of Manipur's politics.
While questioning reluctance of the BJP to stake claim for forming the government in-spite of commanding a comfortable majority in the assembly, he also expressed concern over the cancellation of the proposed meeting of 32 BJP MLAs.
"It is questionable why the government cannot be formed despite having the magic number.
It is even more doubtful why the meeting convened for 32 BJP MLAs was forced to be cancelled," the Shiv Sena leader stated while addressing the media at party 's Babupara office on Wednesday.
Lashing out at the elected representatives for lacking the courage to choose a leader, Tombi remarked that if such a situation had occurred within Shiv Sena, the party members would have taken drastic measures long ago.
According to Tombi, Biren Singh's resignation as chief minister on February 9 and the subsequent imposition of President's Rule in the state, has been welcomed by the Kukis as both were among their core demands.
He, however, warned that with the imposition of PR, the future of Manipur now appears unpredictable, while also holding the Congress party accountable for the current situation.
He continued that Thursday is the final day for village volunteers to surrender their weapons which they used to defend innocent civilians while the central and state forces just stood by and watched the chaos unfold.
He then sought clarity on how the authorities are planning to collect the weapons from the outsiders who have infiltrated, the Kukis, and also from the valley village volunteers.
Tombi then said that Congress must be elated with the imposition of PR, adding that after Manipur attained statehood in 1972, insurgency surged due to the second-class treatment of the people.
It is well known that the Myanmar-based Kukis are being used to annihilate the indigenous citizens of the state.
The central government should stop its geopolitical manoeuvres in the region, which he described as a proxy war.
It would be wrong of the Governor to think of dividing Manipur into two parts like how Kashmir was divided under the pretext of Pakistan's proxy war, he quipped.
He said that Shiv Sena is the people's army and will continue to uphold the wishes of the people to defend the land, which already had its own constitution and territory, well before merging to India.
He then informed that the Manipur Democratic Alliance has proposed an appointment to meet the Governor.
Urging against electing incompetent representatives in the future, Tombi opined that as some of the dissident BJP legislators managed to topple the Biren government, they certainly should have the power to form a new one.
He also mooted that since PR has been imposed, the highway protection force should be deployed along the national highways, while also securing the border.
Observing that most in the valley have surrendered their weapons, he urged for equal collection in the hills as well.
The mechanism of disarming only one side would lead to serious consequences, he cautioned, adding that the Governor would be responsible if such a situation occurs.
