Pambei-led UNLF extends greetings on 60th raising day
Source: Chronicle News Service

Imphal, November 24 2024:

(contd from previous issue)

Continuing the annual statement of the Central Committee, the UNLF said the proposal for plebiscite made on January 31, 2005 was the first significant political step the party initiated during the course of its revolutionary movement.

With the firm belief that plebiscite is a political and democratic means to permanently resolve the Manipur-India conflict, the Front made this proposal with four key points.

In the first point, it proposed that the people of Manipur should be allowed to exercise their democratic rights under the aegis of the United Nations to take decision on regaining the lost sovereignty with the second point emphasising that the plebiscite be conducted in the right norms with the deployment of UN Peace Keeping Force in Manipur.

In the third point, proposal was made that all the arms and weapons possessed by the UNLF cadres be handed over to UN Peace Keeping Force and all armed forces of India be withdrawn from Manipur before conduct of the UN sponsored plebiscite.

In the fourth point, the party proposed that the UN hand over political power as per result of the plebiscite.

The plebiscite proposal made clear the front's decision to resolve the Manipur-India political conflict through democratic means but it was very unfortunate that the government of India rejected the proposal, steadfastly.

Even if India rejected this proposal, the UNLF remains firm till date that Manipur-India political conflict cannot be resolved without participation of the people of Manipur.

The annual statement of the Central Committee further said'that chronic weaknesses still persist till date despite the progress of revolutionary movement.

Some of the weaknesses include fundamental weakness of ideological foundation of revolutionary groups and inability to fill up the weakness, inability to bring united front of unification among revolutionary groups, loss of trust by people on revolutionary struggle due to India's divide and rule policy coupled with lapses on the part of the revolutionary groups, unreasonable collection of donation from public of corrupt nature of revolutionary groups, abuse of power unnecessarily by revolutionary groups and subsequent terror tactics and the inability to draw attention of international community on the freedom movement of Manipur.

Due to these weaknesses, revolutionary movement could not progress to the satisfaction of the people and faced a phase of Unimaginable stalemate.

The pace of revolutionary movement too slowed down as revolutionary groups are unable to bring national consciousness at the highest level.

Nevertheless, the spirit of patriotism among the people remains high though revolutionary movement face numerous challenges, the annual statement elaborated, adding that it is a problem created by inability to bring political facet to the right direction.

Taking advantage of the 60th Raising Day celebration, the Pambei led UNLF declared to the people that it took the decision to hold a comprehensive political dialogue with India based on the sovereignty of Manipur.

It also Said that the changing geo-political dynamics of South Asia and South East Asia compelled the party to sign ceasefire agreement with the government of India.

After exchanging communication and some rounds of meetings, the Front signed peace agreement with the government of India on November 29, 2023.The agreement, however, is preparation for having a comprehensive political dialogue and it is not the last agreement with India government.

In other words, the agreement was signed to stop all forms of conflict and bring a peaceful environment in Manipur.

The agreement does not mean disarm of the party or surrender to India and the party will continue its revolutionary movement and never compromise on it.

The party will never Compromise on Manipur's sovereignty and will remain firm on the matter and same stand was made clear to the government before signing the peace agreement, the annual statement adding that sovereignty issue was pre-condition set for holding political dialogue and it will be a conditional talk.

With the firm belief that Comprehensive Political Dialogue will resolve Manipur-India conflict peacefully, UNLF made the same proposal to the government and this will set the foundation for resolving the conflict.

All outstanding issues between Manipur and India will be covered tinder the Comprehensive Political Dialogue and it will be a process to resolve the conflict based on mutual respect and mutual accommodation.

The annual statement further said that the Comprehensive Political Dialogue will have three main objectives.

The first is to find a path jointly by both the sides to resolve Manipur-India conflict peacefully and politically; second, to rectify mistakes on the necessary political status of Manipur and discussion on future relation between Manipur and India; and the third bring lasting peace and set a foundation for development after both the sides reach an understanding.

The annual statement also clarified to the people that the main reason behind party's plebiscite proposal was that the people must involve in resolving Manipur-India conflict.

In honour of this, approval of the people will be taken in every phase of political dialogue.
