Imphal, October 24 2024:
Alleging persistent attempts by the Kukis to assimilate the Kom tribe, Federation of Haomee (FoH) reminded all concerned that Kom is an indigenous community having its own 'Yek-Salai' (clan system) unlike the Kukis.
In a release, FOH publicity and media cell's Robert Kom pointed out that Kom community has been taking part in 'Mera Houchongba' ceremonies for the past many years reflecting its identity and 'Yek-Salai' .
This year too, Kom villagers and cultural troupes dressed in their traditional attire attended the festival and performed.
"It is unfortunate that a person identified as PS Lupho made a blatant lie claiming the attire of Kom belongs to Chin Kukis," he contended, while clarifying that the attire of Kom has been used by the forefathers since time immemorial, much before the arrival of Kukis in Manipur in the 18th century.
Moreover, it is clearly written in 'Nongshaba Kungairon' puya, he added.
PS Lupho should not imitate PS Haokip, a Chin origin from Myanmar, who distorted history of the land by even claiming that Meetei king Taothinmang was Kuki on the ground that the name had the word 'mang', Robert Kom maintained while asserting that Kukican neither suppress nor assimilate Kom.
