Haoreibi JAC demands probe into death of mom-daughter duo

Imphal, September 24 2024: In connection with the suspicious death of housewife and her toddler daughter at Haoreibi Mayai Leikai Seram Leirak on Monday, JAC against unnatural death of Bashanti & Lanchenbi (Mother-daughter) staged sit-in protest at Haoreibi Kangjeibung community hall on Tuesday and resolved not to claim the body till circumstances leading to the demise have been unearthed.

A memorandum was also submitted to chief minister to probe the mysterious death of the mother-daughter duo.

Speaking on the sidelines, JAC member Thangjam Thoibi opined that the mother-daughter duo found dead on their bed could not be a case of suicide.

She urged authority concerned and the government to find the truth about the death and punish if anyone is involved in the killing.

As the post-mortem of the mother-daughter will be conducted on Tuesday there is strong possibility of confirmation of nature of death.

If anyone is found involved, then authorities concerned should arrest and initiate stringiest punishment, she demanded.

The member also declared that as there is no one left for the mother and daughter, the JAC will not seek monetary compensation, but launch protest until justice is delivered so that such incidents do not recur in future.

Meanwhile, a release issued by JAC convenor O Chaoba Devi informed that a joint meeting was held with meira paibi groups and adopted three resolutions.

The resolutions included demand to probe the suspicious death of the mother and her daughter, not to claim the bodies till unearthing the truth and that the government should implement effective measures for safety of women folk.

The JAC convenor and co-convenor also submitted a memorandum to the chief minister to consider their demands positively.
